On a spontaneous trip to Hastings with Greg many years ago, walking down George Street in the Old Town in Hastings, I was drawn, pulled and called into a shop that only had the letters ‘W&W’ above the door.
Unknown to both of us at the time, Leida, the owner of Warp & Weft has since become a wonderful friend of ours – and would be the one who we entrusted to make our wedding outfits!
Leida has created a beautiful concept store that inspires me every time I visit; from the interior fit-out to the styling – her window displays are always something to be seen! Warp & Weft is a magical mix of apparel, homeware and accessories for men and women. The shop draws inspiration from vintage pieces Leida has collected and her aesthetic is timeless vintage style, in earthy tones and natural materials, with a utilitarian nod.
The styling and ethos of Warp & Weft is as authentic as Leida! Leida is a storm of creativity and it’s evident that creativity flows freely and the shop is ever evolving. This year has seen the new renovation of the shop to include an upstairs atelier and in-house tailoring service. The made-to-order service is incredible value – all fabrics are sourced by Leida and Head Tailor, Brett, and are usually the same fabrics used by any major fashion house; so you can usually pick up a ‘Burberry wool’ jumper or ‘Prada silk’ dress for a fraction of what it would be! Complete with the Warp & Weft signature style, you’ll leave with something totally original and usually, a one-off piece.
Every time I have bought something from Warp & Weft, I’m always bombarded with “I love that! Where did you get it from?!” Most of the Warp & Weft apparel and accessories are made either in England or in Tangier, by trusted craftsmen and pieced together by hand. The process, from start to finish, is overseen by Leida’s keen eye for detail and quality, so that each piece is something to be treasured.
If you’re in need of a coastal weekend away, I couldn’t recommend Hastings more – it’s such a hub for all kinds of creatives – that even just popping your head into a shop could lead to finding something magical. In our case it just happened to be a wonderful friend!
